Lucky Dog Agility

Mission

At Lucky Dog, our mission is to foster the development of a dog agility community in the Athens area and to promote recreational activities for people and their dogs. We strive to provide a training environment that is fun for both people and dogs using positive reward-based training that encourages enthusiasm for agility in the dog and a sense of play for the human.

About Us

Sandy Bird is the owner and operator of Lucky Dog Agility. Sandy competes in agility and other dog sports with her Swedish Vallhunds, Shalom, Sammy, and Wolfie. Shalom and Sandy have titled at the upper level of agility in the three major NE Georgia area agility venues (AKC, USDAA, NADAC ). Shalom was both High in Trial in agility and Most Versatile (with points in conformation, agility, obedience and herding) at the 2003 Swedish Vallhund National Specialty and HIT agility at the 2006 National Specialty. Shalom was invited to the 2006 AKC Agility Invitational tournament. Wolfie, the family youngster, is currently competing in both agility and flyball. In addition to involvement in a variety of dog sports, Sandy works with Sammy in scent detection of environmental pollutants.

For Sandy, agility is the adult version of many of the things she trained her dog to do as a child – jump through a hula hoop, walk across a wall, and run through the culvert. Maintaining a sense of play for dogs and handlers is of primary importance in agility training at Lucky Dog.
